- West Ham are one point from safety in the Premier League
- Jarrod Bowen could move on if West Ham get relegated
- Liverpool are known long-term admirers of Jarrod Bowen
West Ham United are set for an uncertain summer this year. The Hammers are doing what they can to remain in the Premier League but with financial uncertainness, some stars could leave the club upon the conclusion of this campaign.
Club captain Jarrod Bowen is one of the players viewed as a highly-sellable asset, and should West Ham fail to stay in the top flight, the England international could be one of the names out of the door. One of Bowen’s potential suitors is rumoured to be current Premier League champions, Liverpool.
For Liverpool, their season has not gone to plan and they are now in a fight to make the Champions League places. To make things difficult for the Reds, superstar Mohamed Salah has announced he will leave the club at the end of the season.
Liverpool have been linked with Bowen for a number of years but now could be the time they make a move for the winger. With West Ham‘s future uncertain and the Reds need for depth at winger, Arne Slots team could pounce this summer.
Liverpool legends debunk move for West Ham captain
For years the move has seemed unlikely. Given Bowen’s importance to the Hammers and Salah’s world beating form from the 29-year-old’s best position, it just wouldn’t have worked.
With the Egyptian king now moving on, Liverpool are likely to sign several players to fill the void and Bowen fit’s the bill as a ready-to-go Premier League star.
Despite the West Ham captain’s numbers in England’s top flight, both Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard do not think the move will happen.
Gerrard, despite being a big admirer of Bowen, says that the player just isn’t at the level to play for Liverpool.
“I really like Bowen and think he is a top player, but I am not sure he is Salah’s level to replace him,” Gerrard said on TNT Sports.
Carragher furthered his former teammate’s point, stating the 29-year-old his too old and doesn’t have the experience at the top level.
“No (I cannot see Bowen replacing Salah),” Carragher said.
“He was maybe on Liverpool’s radar under Jurgen Klopp early on.
“But obviously Mo Salah was already there. But no, he’d be too old for Liverpool.”
Bowen is contracted to West Ham until 2031 but with his England ambitions, relegation would surely see him look elsewhere.
Even with his, it appears that Liverpool is not a likely destination for the current Iron’s captain.
