West Ham move for Wout Faes rocked by major transfer reversal

West Ham United‘s proposed move for Wout Faes has been plunged into uncertainty after Fabrizio Romano contradicted reports that a verbal agreement had been reached with Leicester City.

Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported earlier on Monday that West Ham had agreed a deal for Faes, with the defender expected to sign a three-year contract.

However, Fabrizio Romano has now provided a significantly different update, reporting that there is “nothing advanced so far” with the Belgium international.

Wout Faes West Ham move thrown into doubt

Romano says Faes has also been offered to Parma, although the Serie A club are not interested after signing Diego Carlos.

The update arrives alongside further doubt from West Ham sources.

ExWHUEmployee reports that two club sources denied West Ham are currently pursuing Faes, with Nottingham Forest defender Morato instead believed to be their main centre-back priority.

That represents a major change from the picture presented earlier in the day.

Tavolieri had reported that a verbal agreement was found overnight between West Ham and Leicester, but those claims are now being disputed by two separate sources.

It does not necessarily mean a Faes deal is impossible before the window closes, but there is clearly conflicting information surrounding the 28-year-old’s future.

West Ham are meanwhile making stronger progress with Morato.

Romano reports that the Hammers are closing in on an initial loan, strengthening previous reports that Morato is already in London ahead of a proposed move.

With Nuno Espírito Santo still seeking defensive reinforcements, Morato now appears considerably closer to becoming a West Ham player than Faes.
