West Ham’s Koppen outlines January transfer plan with Nuno

West Ham’s January transfer plan is already taking shape, with Nils Koppen and Nuno Espírito Santo assessing where the squad could improve.

The director of player recruitment expects a more selective approach following the club’s extensive summer rebuild.

Speaking on West Ham’s official Iron Cast podcast, Koppen said: “Normally, the first idea is you don’t want to do too much in January.”

West Ham January transfer plan takes shape

Koppen believes the squad has depth and balance, but confirmed discussions with Nuno over potential improvements are underway.

His recruitment team are currently scouting broadly for emerging talent. They will narrow their focus during November and December ahead of the window opening.

That timetable gives West Ham more preparation time than Koppen had after arriving on 4 July, when summer business was already underway.

It also develops the picture behind West Ham’s recruitment process outlined ahead of the interview.

Assessment continues before targets are narrowed

Koppen did not identify specific January targets or priority positions in his answer.

His comments point towards targeted additions, while leaving room for Nuno’s assessment of the squad to shape the final approach.
