Gustavo Sá says he had no knowledge of negotiations or an agreement involving West Ham during the summer, challenging reports that a move to London was close.
The Portuguese midfielder eventually joined Nottingham Forest before moving to Olympiacos on loan.
Speaking to Liga Portugal’s videocast, in comments reported by Hammers News, Sá said: “I never had knowledge of negotiations. I never had knowledge of an agreement between clubs.”
He recalled being at the beach with his girlfriend when messages began arriving about a supposed West Ham transfer.
Gustavo Sá challenges West Ham transfer reports
ReadWestHam’s July coverage of the reported Sá agreement cited Portuguese newspaper Record, which claimed the Famalicão midfielder was heading to east London.
His latest account provides a different perspective on how advanced that move appeared.
Sá’s comments establish that he was unaware of negotiations or an agreement. They do not independently settle whether representatives or clubs held discussions without his knowledge.
That distinction matters when revisiting a transfer presented during the summer as nearing completion.
West Ham subsequently strengthened their midfield with Arne Engels and Divine Mukasa, with the latter returning from Manchester City on a season-long loan.
Our report on Nils Koppen’s explanation of Mukasa’s return detailed the youngster’s determination to rejoin his former club.
For Sá, the immediate future instead took him to Greece. His account now challenges the certainty surrounding the earlier West Ham reports, rather than signalling a renewed move to London.
