West Ham launch audacious Vagnoman hijack but Hull move to slam door shut

West Ham United have made a dramatic late attempt to hijack Hull City’s deal for Stuttgart defender Josha Vagnoman, but the Hammers may already be running out of time.

Sky Germany reporter Dennis Bayer revealed that West Ham and Nottingham Forest were trying to snatch the 25-year-oldafter Hull agreed terms with Stuttgart.

At that stage, Vagnoman had not agreed personal terms with Hull, leaving West Ham with an opportunity to intervene.

That window now appears to be closing rapidly.

Hull owner Acun Ilicali has subsequently told BBC Radio Humberside that the Tigers have reached an agreement in principle with both Stuttgart and Vagnoman, with only the finer details left to complete.

Vagnoman is a full Germany international who can operate at right-back or wing-back, while reports in Germany have placed Hull’s proposed fee at around €6.5million.

West Ham’s late interest comes as Nuno Espírito Santo continues searching for defensive reinforcements.

The Hammers have already opened talks for Nottingham Forest defender Morato, while Edvin Austbø became the club’s latest summer signing.

West Ham have tried to gatecrash Vagnoman’s move, but Hull’s latest breakthrough leaves Nuno facing a race against time to prise the German away.
