West Ham face fresh Edson Alvarez and Todibo refusal claims

West Ham face fresh uncertainty over Edson Alvarez and Jean-Clair Todibo after a report claimed both players are refusing to play while trying to secure transfers away from the club.

TalkSPORT reports that Alvarez has joined Todibo in refusing to play following West Ham’s relegation to the Championship.

The report claims the Mexico international wants to leave and has attracted interest from Olympiacos. It adds that Todibo is also seeking a transfer following an alleged disagreement with Nuno Espírito Santo last season.

West Ham have not confirmed the refusal claims, while neither player has publicly responded to the report.

Edson Alvarez and Todibo leave Nuno facing uncertainty

Alvarez started the 3-1 Carabao Cup victory over Portsmouth but has not featured in West Ham’s opening two Championship matches.

The club’s Burnley team announcement confirmed Manor Solomon replaced Alvarez in the only change from the Portsmouth starting side. Alvarez was then absent again for the defeat against Charlton.

Olympiacos have reportedly submitted an €8million permanent offer for the midfielder. Our latest Edson Alvarez transfer update also outlined interest from Real Sociedad, who had explored a loan agreement.

Todibo has not played competitively for West Ham this season.

Marseille remain interested in the France international, while ReadWestHam reported on Monday that the club had entered discussions with an unnamed Premier League side over Todibo.

No agreement has been announced for either player.

Losing both would remove an experienced defensive midfielder and centre-back from a squad which has already conceded four goals in two Championship fixtures.

Our assessment of West Ham’s remaining transfer work identified both positions as areas requiring attention before any further departures.

West Ham face Southampton in the Carabao Cup tonight. Their matchday squad could provide another indication of Nuno’s current plans, although any absence alone would not confirm TalkSPORT’s allegations.

Resolving the futures of Alvarez and Todibo has now become an urgent part of West Ham’s final week of transfer business.
