West Ham enter Jean-Clair Todibo talks as Premier League club emerges

West Ham United are reportedly in discussions with a Premier League club over Jean-Clair Todibo, offering a potential alternative to Marseille’s proposed loan move for the defender.

Todibo’s future remains unresolved following West Ham’s relegation, with the France international yet to feature in Nuno Espírito Santo’s Championship campaign.

Claret and Hugh reports that an unnamed Premier League club is in serious discussions over Todibo. West Ham are understood to favour an agreement containing either an option or an obligation to buy.

The identity of the interested club has not been disclosed, and there is currently no confirmation that a formal bid has been submitted.

Jean-Clair Todibo transfer takes new direction

The emergence of domestic interest could change a situation that previously appeared to revolve around Marseille.

ReadWestHam reported last week that Marseille had agreed personal terms with Todibo, with discussions focusing on a possible loan and how the clubs would divide his salary.

However, a Premier League club may offer West Ham more favourable financial terms.

The West Ham Way reports that Marseille remain interested, although other clubs are also monitoring the defender.

West Ham signed Todibo permanently last year after his initial loan from Nice. The French club confirmed that transfer in June 2025.

That investment makes the structure of any departure significant. A straightforward loan would reduce West Ham’s wage commitments but could leave the club facing the same transfer dilemma next summer.

West Ham need clarity over defensive departures

Todibo’s situation comes as Nuno considers further changes to his squad before the transfer window closes.

West Ham are already assessing possible defensive additions, while Jacques Ekomie has emerged as a potential replacement for Malick Diouf.

Other senior departures also remain possible. Olympiacos have reportedly submitted an €8 million offer for Edson Álvarez, increasing the prospect of further movement across Nuno’s squad.

West Ham’s ability to reinvest could depend on the terms they secure, particularly with the financial consequences of relegation placing additional pressure on recruitment decisions.

For now, Marseille remain in contention, but the emergence of a Premier League alternative gives West Ham another possible route towards resolving Todibo’s future.
