- Konstantinos Mavropanos has been huge to West Ham this season
- The 28-year-old has scored three times this season
- The Hammers now want to renew his contract
West Ham United have had a huge turnaround in 2026. From looking almost doomed at the beginning of the year to now being outside of the relegation zone, Nuno Espirito Santo has worked his magic to give the Hammers a fighting chance.
The team’s 4-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers highlighted all the improvements made over the last four months. From the rock-solid defence to the attack that is finally taking it’s chances, West Ham look like an actual team that deserves to be in the Premier League.
Whilst Nuno deserves a lot of credit for his organisation, the Hammers boss himself will say it’s all down to the players. January signings Axel Disasi and Valentin Castellanos are both stepping up to the plate, with the latter bagging two of the goals on Friday night.
One of the sides biggest players in the second-half of the season, is someone who has been here for a little longer. Konstantinos Mavropanos, who could have left the club in the summer, now looks like the team’s best defender. Fresh off also scoring twice on Friday, the Greek defender is someone West Ham would now like to tie down long-term.

Fresh off 29 appearances this season the West Ham hierarchy believe Mavropanos has more than delivered the improvement that he promised. The 28-year-old is now an integral part of Nuno’s team, often partnering Disasi in the heart of the defensive unit.

| Appearances | Goals | Clean Sheets |
| 29 | 3 | 6 |
It’s not just his performances with the ball that the Hammers staff are impressed by, but also his leadership within the group. Mavropanos has taken on a much more senior role in the squad, helping to lead the team and build a defensive stronghold built on communication and togetherness.
At 28, the Greece international is in his prime and could be someone the Hammers can ill-afford to lose. Should the team secure Premier League survival this season, Mavropanos’s contract could be the first port of call before the side look into bringing Disasi the London Stadium, permanently.
