West Ham turn to three Celtic players after transfer setback

West Ham United are reportedly considering moves for three Celtic players after missing out on an unnamed leading summer target.

Recruitment director Nils Koppen is understood to have recommended the trio as the Hammers attempt to accelerate their work in the transfer market.

The identities of the players have not been disclosed. However, one is reportedly Japanese, while creativity is viewed as an important area for Nuno Espírito Santo to strengthen.

Claret & Hugh reports that West Ham are actively exploring the three Celtic players, although no formal bids have been submitted. The club’s pursuit of its original priority target also did not reach the offer stage.

Koppen begins shaping West Ham’s recruitment work

The report represents one of the first clear indications of Koppen influencing West Ham’s shortlist since his arrival.

The former Rangers and FC Copenhagen executive was appointed to lead the club’s recruitment operation and provide greater direction during a major squad rebuild.

ReadWestHam previously examined how Koppen’s appointment could create a more direct recruitment structure for Nuno and the board.

His knowledge of Scottish football makes Celtic an obvious market to assess. However, monitoring three players is still some distance from advancing three transfers.

Celtic could face interest in several senior players this summer. Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate are among the Japanese members of their squad whose futures have attracted speculation, but there is currently no confirmation that either is one of West Ham’s targets.

West Ham’s need for creativity is clear following the loss of several important players and the demands of a Championship promotion campaign.

The latest report suggests Koppen’s shortlist is beginning to take shape. The next step is turning preliminary interest into formal approaches rather than allowing another target to slip away.
