Roma have made a concrete approach to sign West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville, complicating Manchester United’s long-running pursuit of the Dutch international.
According to a fresh update from Italian transfer specialist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Serie A club have identified Summerville as a priority attacking target once their move for Chelsea’s Alejandro Garnacho is finalised, with West Ham holding firm on a valuation in excess of £40million that reflects the relegation clause written into his contract.
Nuno Espírito Santo Faces Fresh Fight To Keep His Talisman
Di Marzio’s report, relayed by Football Italia and Giallorossi.net, adds that Roma are working to close the financial gap between what Summerville is seeking and what the club are currently prepared to offer, with the numbers involved still some way apart.
Manchester United have long regarded Summerville as their leading option out wide this summer, but Chelsea, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain have also been credited with interest. The longer the situation drags on, the harder it becomes for West Ham to press ahead with their own replacement targets on the wing.
Summerville’s stock has only risen since West Ham’s relegation, with the winger scoring twice and setting up two more for the Netherlands at this summer’s World Cup. Nuno Espírito Santo’s side will be reluctant to let their most saleable asset leave on the cheap, and with the transfer window still weeks from closing, this saga looks set to run for some time yet.
