West Ham United beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-0 in a huge clash at the bottom of the Premier League. Goals from Valentin Castellanos and Konstantinos Mavropanos saw the Hammers to three points that takes them out of the relegation zone going into Saturday’s fixtures.

Winning was all that mattered for Nuno Espirito Santo’s team, and that’s exactly what they did.

Nuno was able to welcome back several players on the a night where three points had to be the only outcome at the London Stadium. The returning calvary would more than help as West Ham secured a massive three points.

First-half

Wolves would start the better of the two teams. Andre and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde both having efforts that missed the target before Yerson Mosquera sent a header wide.

West Ham would fight back, with Crysencio Summerville failing to control Mateus Fernandes’s through ball.

The two sides went back and forth for much of the half. Jarrod Bowen shot too close to Jose Sa before Kyle Walker-Peters blocked Hugo Bueno’s shot.

Adam Armstrong could only fire over before Tomas Soucek followed suit. Mads Hermansen would be forced into a save at one end before Bowen went down the other having his attempt blocked.

The Hammers would get their lead as the brake approached. Bowen won a corner with the rebound collected by Fernandes who once again fed Bowen. The West Ham captain put it on the head of Mavropanos and you know the rest. 1-0 to the Irons.

Pablo Felipe could gave made it two almost immediately but Sa saved well by his near post.

Second-half

To open the second-half it was Wolves who had the first major chance. Angel Gomes put his free-kick onto the post before Summerville attempted to lob the keeper from the resulting counter attack.

Wolves and Gomes would try again but this time it sailed wide of the post. That, would be the away side’s last meaningful chance of the game.

Castellanos struck twice within a matter of minutes. Pablo’s audacious flick fed the Argentinian for his first strike before Bowen fed him to turn and shoot to make it 3-0 to West Ham.

It wasn’t long before the home side would add another. Bowen’s corner was flicked on by the Wolves defence, landing right where Mavropanos wanted it as he volleyed home.

For Nuno’s men, it was only about winning, and winning is exactly what they did. A huge step towards what this team wants and needs.
