West Ham United are making steps towards Premier League survival this season. Whilst there is still a long way to go, Friday night’s 4-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers has seen the Hammers pass the first test of the run in.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s team are finally starting to click, with the destructive win being exhibit A. Konstantinos Mavropanos and Valentin Castellanos got the goals in the game and for frontman Castellanos, who joined West Ham in January, it is only the beginning of showing what he can do.

The Argentine was one of the marquee signing’s of Nuno’s winter revolution at the Hammers but has had to deal will very little service since. Despite the lack of service, it has not stopped the 27-year-old from running for every ball, something the Iron’s fans have seriously appreciated.

West Ham have failed to replace Michail Antonio since he left the club last summer but should Castellanos continue to play as he did on Friday, the side may finally have a solution.

West Ham striker’s World Cup dream

Castellanos has scored twice for the Argentine national team, but has not featured for his nation since early 2025. Despite the lack of international football, the 27-year-old won’t give up on the national team picture.

Strasbourg’s Joaquin Panichelli was widely expected to make the Argentina squad for this summer’s tournament. Unfortunately for him, an injury could see him miss the World Cup, opening the door for the Hammers Castellanos.

The former Lazio striker told Capital Football that he hopes he can make it in, but is being realistic with his chances.

“It’s a shame for Panichelli, but I have to keep working for West Ham, and if I do well, the national team will be a consequence of that.

“It’s tough, I have to put in the hard yards,”

Castellanos also spoke of the West Ham’s task in hand, acknowledging there is still a lot of work to do if they want to stay up.

“It was an important double, and it helped us win, which is our aim each time,” he said. “This was a crucial game, and I am happy for that.

We have to keep going like that because there are no easy games in the Premier League.

“There’s a lot of work still ahead of us. This week we will knuckle down to prepare our next game.”
