  • West Ham United beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-0 on Friday night
  • Hammers defender Konstantinos Mavropanos netted two of the team’s four goals
  • The three points moves West Ham out of the Premier League bottom three

West Ham United turned on the style as they beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-0. The huge three points see’s the Hammers out of the Premier League bottom three on a big night at the London Stadium.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s team started slow but put on a show as the game continued with Konstantinos Mavropanos and Valentin Castellanos netting the goals that saw West Ham to victory.

Speaking to the club’s official website after the game, Mavropanos spoke about how the team feels and say’s how he predicted his new goal scoring attributes.

“The funny thing is that we were talking about the game against Gibraltar with the national team recently,” said Mavropanos, who now has three goals in his last three Premier League games. “It came up, and then again two goals!

“I’m happy because I think the team deserves a win like this, and it’s a great feeling to get this win. Of course individual rewards are nice, but for me, I just always try to give my best for the team, because that’s what the Club deserves.

“It’s perfect for everyone, because we’re a team and we stick together and fight together. I think the whole team has been really good over the last few weeks and months, and we’ve shown how much we want to fight until the end.

“I think we’ve seen the togetherness and chemistry, and it’s great to be able to show a performance like this in front of our fans, give them a win like this and play in such a brilliant atmosphere.”

Opening goal set the tone for West Ham

Mavropanos’s opener came just before half-time and West Ham could not have needed it more. The 28-year-old’s header from Jarrod Bowen’s cross set the tone back in the Hammers hands and they would come out with cofidence in the second-half.

“I think my first goal was important from every perspective, because we knew that Wolves were going to make it tough for us,” Mavropanos said. “They have a good game plan, but that first goal probably did give us a bit more confidence to go out in the second half and create more chances.

“It was great for the strikers, especially Taty who got the two goals. They (Taty and Pablo) have been working so hard all over the pitch, so we’re all pleased for them that they put in such a good performance.

“Now, the only thing we have to do is to stay calm and keep this momentum. We have to keep working as hard as we have been doing over the last few weeks and months, and if we keep performing like this, we’ll be confident.”

matchday.
