West Ham United secured a big three points as they beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-0 on Friday night. The win takes Nuno Espirito Santo’s team out of the bottom three but with six games to go, the Hammers still have a lot of work to do.

Konstantinos Mavropanos and Valentin Castellanos got the goals in the game but there was several good performers throughout the West Ham team. Mateus Fernandes put on another good showing, proving just how important he is to the team.

The Portuguese international has told the club’s official website that whilst the win is exactly what they needed, all focus is on the next game.

“We needed this victory,” Fernandes said. “We scored four and didn’t concede, so it was a good night for us. Now we have to rest our minds and bodies because we need to be ready for next week.

“Obviously it’s good to have moved up in the table, but we know that things can change very quickly, and if we don’t keep getting results we can be there again. So, we have to focus on the things we can control for the next game.

“The pressure is normal, we feel it every day, but we have to try and enjoy the moment. We have to be the best we can be every day in training, and be ready to go again in what is sure to be a tough game away at Palace.”

Full team effort at West Ham

This season, Fernandes has been one of West Ham’s most consistent performers. Whilst things have changed in the second-half of the season, the 21-year-old has remained integral to the team but he was full of praise for the players that have began to perform as it comes to the business end of the season.

“I’m very happy for Taty and Dinos, because they deserve it. Taty always works very hard for us, he’s important for us, and I think he really deserved to score twice.

“It’s not been easy for him or Pablo, coming to England to play in the Premier League. I felt the same when I first moved, so it’s our job to help make things easy for them. I speak Portuguese and Spanish, and the important thing is they are happy, which I think you can see on the pitch.

“The whole team is together, and we will keep fighting to get ready for the next game, which we’re looking forward to now.”
