West Ham are reportedly ‘lining up a move’ to sign Liverpool central defender Nat Phillips.

The 24-year-old has returned to the periphery of matters at Anfield despite helping guide Jurgen Klopp’s side to a top-four finish last season.

Called upon amidst a major injury crisis, Phillips impressed against the Irons at Anfield despite being a lesser-seen commodity at the top level.

Now it would appear that David Moyes has seen enough to be convinced of the Englishman’s ability as the Hammers’ boss lines up a replacement for the injured Angelo Ogbonna.

That’s according to a report from Football Insider, claiming that West Ham have already begun ‘laying the groundwork’ for the move.

So far this season Phillips has made just three appearances across all competitions for Liverpool.

Valued at £7.2million and under contract until 2025 (Transfermarkt), the report claims that Liverpool will ‘listen to offers’ around £12million for the no-nonsense ace.

Ogbonna’s absence has left the Irons with only Craig Dawson, Issa Diop and Kurt Zouma as the recognised central defensive options.

Having equipped himself impressively in the Champions League and Premier League last term, Phillips would be a smart signing by the Hammers.

Powerful in the air and therefore a threat from set-pieces both attacking and defensive, it would seem the Bolton-born man is the perfect fit for Moyes side at present.
