Jessie Stapleton has joined Leicester and ended the Republic of Ireland defender’s three-year spell with West Ham United.
Stapleton has signed a three-year contract with the Foxes as they rebuild their squad following relegation from the Women’s Super League.
The 21-year-old still had one season remaining on her West Ham deal after signing a two-year extension last summer.
However, Stapleton was unlikely to receive regular minutes under Rita Guarino following an extensive defensive rebuild in east London.

Stapleton joined West Ham from Shelbourne in July 2023 after helping the Irish club win domestic silverware.
She made her Women’s Super League debut as a substitute against Leicester in December 2023, but that proved to be her only league appearance for the Hammers.
West Ham instead prioritised loan moves to continue her development. Stapleton played for Reading during the second half of the 2023/24 campaign before spending full seasons with Sunderland and Nottingham Forest.
The defender made 23 appearances for Sunderland and remained a regular member of the Republic of Ireland squad. Her official West Ham profile confirms that she signed a new contract before joining Forest on loan last summer.
Leicester can now offer Stapleton the regular football required at this stage of her career. Rick Passmoor is reshaping his squad as the Foxes attempt to secure an immediate return to the WSL.
For West Ham, the departure creates further space within a heavily changed group. Guarino has already added several experienced defenders, while France international Kelly Gago recently became the ninth arrival of a busy summer window.
