West Ham Looking At Signing Mazzetti

West Ham are said to be interested in signing Birkirkara defender Mauricio Mazzetti this summer, claims the Times of Malta.

Yes, you read that correctly.

It’s actually surreal that West Ham have come away from this Europa League tie thinking that signing a Maltese part-timer would be beneficial for the squad, yet, here we are.

The 29-year-old centre-back apparently caught the eye of West Ham officials on Thursday night, despite being sent off in extra time for a second bookable offence.

The Argentine defender has enjoyed the most nomadic of nomadic careers, playing in countries such as Bolivia, Cyprus and Iraq, but could soon be plying his trade in English football.

West Ham have allegedly informed Birkirkara president Adrian Delia that they are impressed with Mazzetti’s efforts, but no bid is forthcoming at the moment.

Birkirkara beat West Ham on the night 1-0, and he was largely down to keeping the clean sheet with his rugged defending.

Whether we’ll follow up our interest with a bid remains to be seen, but this remains one of the most surprising transfer stories of the summer.
