Oona Siren believes West Ham’s comeback against Southampton has strengthened their mentality before Sunday’s meeting with Chelsea.
The midfielder scored twice in the 3-1 cup victory and has urged the home support to play its part against Sonia Bompastor’s side.
Speaking to West Ham’s official website, Siren said: “It’s always great to hear the fans’ support and the fans are going to be important again on Sunday.”
Oona Siren takes confidence into Chelsea test
Siren highlighted the value of recovering after conceding, explaining that the response mattered for the team’s confidence before returning to league action.
Her equaliser followed a corner, while her second goal came from close range after Leila Wandeler had put West Ham ahead.
That contribution gives Rita Guarino another attacking option from midfield, although it does not guarantee Siren a starting place against Chelsea.
Our predicted West Ham XI retains her, but that remains a selection forecast rather than confirmed team news.
Guarino has already called for greater efficiency in front of goal following the Southampton victory. Turning promising positions into chances will again be important on Sunday.
Chelsea visit on 4 October, with kick-off at 2pm BST. Our television and live-stream guide explains how supporters can follow the match.
For Siren, the immediate aim is to carry the confidence from that comeback into a much tougher league assignment.
