Edson Álvarez and Maxwel Cornet reportedly featured in West Ham’s closed-door win over Wycombe, giving both players match minutes before the Championship resumes.
The West Ham Way, publishing information from ExWHUEmployee, reports that Álvarez came on after 60 minutes with the Hammers already leading 2-0. Cornet also appeared as a substitute.
The report names Soungoutou Magassa, Lewis Orford and Tomáš Souček in the starting midfield.
West Ham won Friday’s game at Rush Green through goals from Souček and Joël Piroe. Our report on Souček’s scoring return covered the Czech midfielder’s first outing following his injury absence.
Edson Álvarez’s West Ham appearance leaves QPR question open
The reported involvement gives Álvarez and Cornet playing time, but neither has a confirmed place in Nuno Espírito Santo’s next competitive squad.
Hammers News reports that West Ham still expect both players to be possible January departures if suitable offers arrive. That remains a reported position rather than an announced transfer decision.
A friendly appearance alone therefore cannot establish that either player has secured a lasting route back into Nuno’s plans.
The next meaningful test comes when West Ham name their squad against QPR on Friday 9 October.
Mohamadou Kanté’s suspension creates a midfield selection issue, while Souček’s return adds another option. Álvarez’s reported minutes are relevant to that discussion, but his involvement against Wycombe does not confirm a Championship recall.
For now, the development is a reported return to match action. Selection against QPR remains a separate decision.
