West Ham are considering a £10m move for highly-rated Benfica winger Ola John, according to Dutch source Voetbal International.
The 23-year-old attacker has made 86 appearances for the Portuguese side since his €9m move from FC Twente in 2012, scoring nine goals and recording 15 assists in three seasons at the club.
Capped once by the Dutch national team, John has always been touted as one of the rising stars of Dutch football, but it appears Benfica are looking to cash in on the talented winger.
Crystal Palace are also said to be considering a move for the player, who is seen as a potential replacement for Stewart Downing, as the 30-year-old England international is understood to be on the verge of signing for hometown club Middlesbrough.
Ola John looks like a very risky purchase for West Ham, considering he has no experience of the Premier League, and hasn’t quite lived up to his potential, but the ability is there for all to see.
The Dutchman isn’t the only winger West Ham are looking to sign, as reports surfaced today that the Hammers are considering an audacious €20m swoop for PSG and Argentina star Ezequiel Lavezzi.
