West Ham’s Bowen takes second in Championship ranking as Mukasa features

Jarrod Bowen has been placed second in Football League World’s ranking of the Championship’s best players this season, with West Ham teammate Divine Mukasa also included.

According to Claret & Hugh’s report on the list, Wolves midfielder Fer Lopez takes first place, while Mukasa ranks 15th.

The list represents the publication’s assessment of performances so far, rather than an official EFL award.

For West Ham, it puts their established captain and a young summer arrival alongside the division’s other leading performers.

Bowen’s decision to remain at London Stadium gave Nuno Espírito Santo a proven attacking figure around whom to build.

The EFL covered his commitment to West Ham’s promotion push in July, highlighting his determination to help the club return to the Premier League.

Mukasa has taken a different route into Nuno’s side, returning from Manchester City on a season-long loan.

Our coverage of Nils Koppen’s explanation of Mukasa’s return detailed how strongly the midfielder wanted to rejoin his former club.

Their inclusion offers an encouraging assessment of two players with different levels of experience. The more important measure for West Ham, however, will be whether those performances continue producing points.

The Hammers resume their Championship campaign against QPR on Friday 9 October before travelling to Lincoln City and Swansea City.

Our West Ham next five fixtures guide outlines the schedule awaiting Nuno’s side after the international break.
