West Ham Dealt Blow In Cabaye Chase

West Ham have been dealt a major blow in their efforts to sign PSG midfielder Yohan Cabaye this month.

The Mirror claim that Southampton are said to be lining up a move to sign the French international midfielder as a replacement for compatriot Morgan Schneiderlin.

The 25-year-old is set to sign for Manchester United, with the Saints eyeing up Cabaye, as well as Lille’s Idrissa Gueye, who has been linked with West Ham, as replacements.

It was reported earlier in the week that the Hammers were very confident in completing a deal to sign the 29-year-old, who has also been linked with Crystal Palace.

The former Newcastle midfielder left England for a return to France 18 months ago, but has yet to secure a regular first-team place in PSG team, and recently revealed that he needed to leave the club in order to meet his desires.

‘It is clear I will have to leave before Euro 2016, I know this and the club know it too, but it will be important to make the best choice possible’ Cabaye told L’Equipe.

‘I really enjoyed myself in England. If I have the chance to return to England, I hope that everyone will be clever enough in order for things to work out. I just need and want to be on the pitch’
