Pablo Fornals has revealed his regret at never facing Millwall for West Ham after watching his former club’s dramatic comeback at The Den.
The Real Betis midfielder followed the 2-2 draw as Nuno Espírito Santo’s side recovered from two goals down in the rivals’ first competitive meeting since 2012.
Fornals played for the Hammers between 2019 and 2024, missing the opportunity to experience the fixture himself.
Pablo Fornals reveals Millwall regret
Speaking to Diario de Sevilla, with his comments translated and relayed by Hammers News, Fornals said:
“I wasn’t lucky enough to play in it, but I did see [the game] the other day.”
He described a tense derby in which neither side wanted to lose or make a costly mistake.
His interest offers another reminder that he continues following West Ham after leaving east London.
West Ham comeback gives Fornals plenty to watch
The match delivered a difficult afternoon for anyone watching with a West Ham connection.
Caleb Taylor and Camiel Neghli established Millwall’s two-goal advantage before Mohamadou Kanté and Konstantinos Mavropanos rescued the visitors.
As our Millwall 2-2 West Ham match report detailed, Kanté then received a late red card, leaving the Hammers to protect their point with ten men.
Fornals experienced European nights and London derbies during his West Ham career. A meeting with Millwall remained one occasion he never got to sample.
Watching September’s encounter clearly brought that missing experience back into focus.
