West Ham have handed Harry Montague his first professional contract, rewarding the 17-year-old defender’s progress into Under-21 football.
The club confirmed the agreement as Montague continues his development under Mark Robson after moving to Rush Green during the summer.
For the lifelong Hammers supporter, the deal marks a significant personal milestone following his return to the academy in 2024.
Montague described signing professional terms as “a dream come true and a hugely proud moment for me and my family”, in comments carried by Hammers News.
Harry Montague contract follows Under-21 progress
Montague has already gained experience against older opposition, including a full appearance in West Ham’s recent Premier League International Cup victory over Valencia.
Academy manager Kenny Brown praised the defender’s attitude, willingness to learn and consistency, identifying regular involvement with the Under-21s as his next challenge.
Montague also spoke positively about working with Robson and adapting to opponents who present greater physical and tactical demands.
That provides the clearest measure of what comes next. Professional terms represent an important step, while regular starts will give the teenager further opportunities to develop.
