Free agent midfielder Lassana Diarra has received FIFA clearance to go ahead and sign a contract with West Ham until the end of the season.
The former Real Madrid, Chelsea and Arsenal man was in a dispute with former club Lokomotiv Moscow and wanted a release from his contract.
The 29-year-old hasn’t played for Lokomotiv Moscow since May 2014, and refused to play for them this season after not receiving his wages, and has now been released, FIFA has ruled.
The Hammers could announce the signing of the French international as soon as Thursday, say France Football.
Diarra has been training with West Ham’s head of medicine and sports science Stijn Vandenbroucke throughout January, and has also impressed in recent training sessions with the first team and looks set to be handed a contract until the end of the season. He was widely tipped to join Inter Milan, which appears to be put on hold until the summer.
