Allardyce: Fletcher Deal Off

Darren Fletcher’s proposed move to West Ham from Manchester United is off, says manager Sam Allardyce, according to the BBC.

The midfielder had negotiated the early release from his Old Trafford contract to force through a move to West Ham, but the deal hit a stumbling block.

The 30-year-old’s wage demands proved too hefty for West Ham to match, as his £75,000-a-week demands would’ve made him one of the clubs highest earners, and the Hammers were just unwilling to commit that much to an ageing midfielder.

West Ham will likely turn their attentions to French international midfielders Lassana Diarra and Yann M’Vila, both of whom have been linked with a move to Upton Park in recent days.
