  • The three points took the Hammers out of the bottom three

West Ham United secured an emphatic win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday night. The three points takes the Hammers out of the relegation zone, plummeting Tottenham Hotspur into their old position.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s team arguably laid out one of their best performances of the season to dismantle Wolves. Every West Ham player had a part to play and did so with flying colours to get the team over the line.

Despite everyone in a Hammers shirt performing well, two players stood out. Konstantinos Mavropanos and Valentin Castellanos both found the net for West Ham, putting on star performances as the side moved out of the relegation zone.

Castellanos and Mavropanos make BBC Team of the Week

Both players have had their performances recognized. Troy Deeney, who selects the BBC’s Team of the Week has placed both Hammers into his team that covers the Premier League last weekend.

On Mavropanos, Deeney said the Greek defender dominated in everything he did.

“A huge performance when West Ham needed it. It was the biggest game of their season and Mavropanos had a dominating performance in defence while also producing two goals. He made some big tackles and big headers. It was a wonderful display.”

Castellanos has been included up top, alongside fellow South American, Igor Thiago, who netted twice for Brentford.

On the Argentinian, Deeney said it was the 27-year-old‘s biggest game in a Hammers shirt.

“He had a very poor Serie A season but now he has found a home that fits. Both his goals were scrappy, but who cares? Two goals for a striker in a massive game – the biggest game of the season for West Ham.”

Both players will be looking to continue their form as West Ham head across London to play Crystal Palace on Monday night. The Hammers will know a win at Selhurst Park could be huge for their survival efforts.
