  • Valentin Castellanos joined West Ham in January from Lazio
  • The Hammers play Leeds United in the FA Cup on Sunday
  • The team’s next Premier League game is against Wolverhampton Wanderers

West Ham United’s quest to stay in the Premier League will resume next week after they play Leeds United in the FA Cup quarter finals. The Hammers are one point from safety but have drastically improved in 2026.

Nuno Espirito Santo instructed the team to spend big in January, and they did, adding the likes of Valentin Castellanos and Pablo Felipe, alongside the loan signing of Axel Disasi.

Castellanos, who was the marquee signing, spoke of his desire to play in the Premier League and he is the player other club’s are already looking to should West Ham fail to stay up.

The 27-year-old hasn’t found it smooth sailing in London but his work ethic has been unmatched, with Castellanos doing what he can with limited service. The Argentinian has three goals for the Hammers so far and is Nuno’s first choice up top. Both parties will be hope he can help the Iron’s to their goal.

Flamengo reignite interest in West Ham forward

According to Bolavip in Brazil, Flamengo have reignited their interest in Castellanos. The Brazilian side had been keen on the striker in January, when the 27-year-old ultimately chose to sign for West Ham.

The club are expected to return for the player regardless of if the Hammers stay up or not. The move will be subject to manager Leonard Jardim’s approval but should the Irons get relegated, it would make the move all that easier.

Lucas Paqueta recently joined Flamengo from the club in the winter window and with West Ham’s need to sell, they believe they can use the relationship to secure the services of Castellanos.

Nuno’s Hammers have seven games to save their top flight status. The Argentine striker, alongside his teammates, remain committed to that collective goal.
