West Ham are locked in a four-way battle to sign highly-rated Hoffenheim defender Luis Advincula this summer, reports Libero.
The same news source reported last month that the Hammers had agreed a deal to sign the Peruvian right-back, who spent last season on loan with Primeira Liga side Vitoria Setubal.
However, it’s now being claimed that fellow Portuguese side Benfica, Serie A outfit Sampdoria as well as La Liga club Rayo Vallecano have all registered their interest in signing the player.
The 25-year-old is owned by Bundesliga side Hoffenheim, who are looking to cash-in on the player following an impressive run in this summer’s Copa America, where Peru made it to the semi-final’s but ultimately lost out, but still picked up third place in a play-off game.
Right-back is definitely an area of weakness for the Hammers, who only have Joey O’Brien as the senior pro at the position in the squad.
While a deal to re-sign Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson on another season-long loan is nearing completion after he was left out of their pre-season squad, it would be wise for the club to bring in a permanent, long-term option as well, with O’Brien only under contract until the end of the season.
