Hammers Chasing Wijnaldum

West Ham have joined Sunderland and Newcastle in the race to sign highly-rated PSV attacking midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, reports the Daily Mail.

The 24-year-old racked up 18 goals and five assists in the Eredivisie last season as PSV won the title, and the club are desperate to hold on to their star man, having already sold winger Memphis Depay to Manchester United this summer.

Sunderland and Newcastle are both also reportedly interested in signing the midfielder, with the Black Cats said to have placed an £11m bid for the player in the last few days, claims the Daily Mail.

However, local paper The Sheilds Gazette states that Dick Advocaat has no interest in signing Wijnaldum this summer, with no bid having been placed. It’s understood that the player believes his time in Holland is up, despite PSV qualifying for the Champions League, and he wises to move to the Premier League.

The Hammers’ interest in the player will likely hinge on the arrival of Marseille attacker Dimitri Payet, who looks set to join the club after it was revealed the two clubs agreed a fee for the 28-year-old last night.
