West Ham appear to have won the race to signing Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher this month, and are awaiting for the final stages of the deal to be concluded before making it official.
The Hammers are hoping to sign the 30-year-old Scotland international on a free transfer, with Fletcher only having six months left to run on his contract at Old Trafford.
The experienced midfielder hasn’t been a regular feature for Louis van Gaal’s side this season, and is willing to quit the club in order to find regular first team football.
Fletcher is trying to negotiate a deal with United for he can be released early from his £90,000-a-week contract, worth £1.8m the rest of the season, so says The Guardian.
They also state that due to Fletcher’s health history, he would be taking a substantial pay cut to sign for West Ham on a contract heavily laden with appearance-based incentives.
The Scot has reportedly turned down the chance to sign for West Brom and Valencia to (potentially) join the seventh-placed Hammers on a three-and-a-half year contract, and would become the club’s second signing this month.
