West Ham United defender Dinos Mavropanos produced a standout performance as Greece secured a historic 1-0 victory away to Germany.
Mavropanos started at centre-back as Greece recorded their first-ever win on German soil, with Dimitris Kourbelis scoring the decisive goal.
West Ham described Mavropanos’ display as a magnificent individual performance after the defender helped his country withstand sustained German pressure.
It caps an encouraging few days for Nuno Espírito Santo.
Mavropanos answers West Ham fitness concern
There had initially been concern surrounding Mavropanos after he required treatment during Greece’s victory over Serbia.
His involvement against Germany already provided reassurance over his fitness.
The subsequent performance was even more encouraging.
Sofascore awarded Mavropanos a 9.1 rating, the highest mark given to an outfield player in the match, as Greece kept a clean sheet against one of Europe’s strongest national sides.
For West Ham, the priority will now be getting Mavropanos through the remainder of the international window without another fitness scare.
Greece still have further Nations League fixtures before the defender returns to east London ahead of the Championship clash with QPR.
