Sky Sports’ EFL commentator and analyst Andy Hinchcliffe has backed West Ham United to go all the way to secure instant promotion back to the Premier League.

The former Manchester City, Everton, and Sheffield Wednesday full-back believes the Hammers have what it takes, and that they are starting to show it.

This week, Hinchcliffe has provided his analysis on The Championship Catch-Up for Sky Sports, as well as The Essential EFL Podcast.

His message is that West Ham presented their promotion credentials by getting the job done at league leaders Swansea City, with more to come.

West Ham causing huge problems

On the EFL podcast, he continued with this sentiment, setting out the case for Nuno Espírito Santo’s side to claim automatic promotion back to the top flight.

Having watched the Hammers in recent weeks, it’s clear that Hinchcliffe is impressed.

“Looking at the numbers, they’ve had 11 different scorers in their last five games. If you’ve got that attacking variety, you’re going to cause teams a huge amount of problems. They’ve got a great balance, with the top scorers and the fourth-best defence.

“Everything we’ve seen from West Ham so far has been right. They’ve only lost one game and have won six of their last eight, so they’re starting to go through the gears.

Depth, quality and creativity

He continued: I haven’t seen anything from West Ham so far that leads me to believe the wheels are suddenly going to come off.

“They’ve got depth, quality and creativity. Most importantly, they’ve got application and a desire to enjoy playing in the Championship.

“Lots of players coming down from the Premier League think they don’t want to be in this league.

“It looks like the West Ham players have embraced it, and their fans are travelling in such numbers that they’ve embraced it too. They’ve effectively said they might as well enjoy this season rather than endure it,” said Hinchcliffe.

It’s an interesting analysis of the situation at West Ham and the squad at Nuno’s disposal.

The quality and numbers are in the squad, in terms of personnel and attacking output.

So far, that has taken the Irons to second place in the table, at a time when there are signs of consistency and momentum.

If that continues, the rest should take care of itself, starting with Southampton on Saturday.
