West Ham United are aware of rising interest in Mohamadou Kante and are preparing a new contract for the Paris-born player.
According to The Athletic, Hammers chiefs are working on a fast-tracked improved contract as a recognition of the forward strides made by Kante.
“West Ham are in negotiations with Kante over an improved contract, with talks at an early stage,” said the report
The 21-year-old has been an important figure this season, recording three goals and two assists over 13 appearances this term.
His impact in the final third has been impressive and will only get better, if the current trajectory continues.
Mohamadou Kante’s form has passed the eye test, but clubs far and wide are also aware of his development.
Kante’s star on the rise
While the Championship isn’t where West Ham want to be, the current platform has been a blessing for the likes of Kante.
At this level, he has been able to accelerate his development, and that is a positive for the club and its asset.
With development comes learning, and it’s not always positive.
Kante’s recent red card against Millwall was an important moment that the young player must react to.
This is something that he has acknowledged personally, with a “hard work” vow in the aftermath.
Clubs keeping tabs on Kante
In the summer following relegation to the Championship, West Ham rejected serious interest in Kante from Ligue 1.
There’s the obvious connection to his country of birth, with the improved form making more clubs aware and interested in his situation.
The same has been said of Kante’s international prospects.
As well as qualifying for France, he can play for Mali and Senegal through his late parents, but the player is in no hurry to decide his international future.
For now, he is in the picture for the France U21 squad.
Last weekend, we got another reminder of Mohamadou Kante’s importance to West Ham with his involvement in Divine Mukasa’s goal against Swansea City.
Another key impact, in a season that looks set to bring many more.
Mohamadou Kante is growing in stature for West Ham. The better he plays, the more interest the club will need to deal with.
That’s just the nature of football, and a win-win sutuation for a player bought from Paris FC for less than half a million two years ago.
