West Ham join race for Marcel Reguła amid Dortmund interest

West Ham United are reportedly among the clubs interested in highly-rated Polish midfielder Marcel Reguła.

The 19-year-old currently plays for Zagłębie Lubin and has attracted attention from several major European sides following his emergence in the Ekstraklasa.

Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt and Benfica have also been linked with Reguła, meaning West Ham could face significant competition if their reported interest develops.

West Ham linked with Marcel Reguła

According to The Hard Tackle, citing Polish reports, West Ham are one of four clubs monitoring Reguła.

No bid or formal approach from the Hammers has been reported.

The interest therefore remains at an early stage, but Reguła fits the profile West Ham have increasingly targeted since Nils Koppen took greater control of recruitment.

The Hammers invested heavily in younger players during the summer, including the £10million arrival of Edvin Austbø from Viking.

Austbø has already made an impact in east London, with the Norwegian winger scoring his first West Ham goal shortly after joining.

Borussia Dortmund remain major competition

West Ham would face a difficult race for Reguła if they decide to pursue a deal.

Borussia Dortmund came close to signing the midfielder during the summer transfer window.

Zagłębie Lubin’s former president Paweł Jeż subsequently told Canal+ Sport that Dortmund still saw Reguła as part of their future plans, with a potential move in January or next summer remaining possible.

That makes Dortmund particularly significant competition rather than simply another club loosely linked with the player.

Eintracht Frankfurt and Benfica have also been named among the interested sides.

Who is Marcel Reguła?

Reguła is a 19-year-old attacking midfielder who has broken into Zagłębie Lubin’s senior side.

He is primarily used in advanced midfield and attacking positions and has already accumulated substantial first-team experience despite his age.

His profile would make sense within West Ham’s recent recruitment strategy.

The club’s summer rebuild saw Nuno Espírito Santo handed a much younger squad, while Nils Koppen’s influence over West Ham’s recruitment operation has continued to grow.

Players such as Austbø, Divine Mukasa and Arne Engels were recruited with both immediate first-team value and longer-term development in mind.

Reguła would appear to fit a similar model.

West Ham already looking towards January

There is still a long way to go before the January transfer window opens.

West Ham’s immediate priority remains their Championship promotion challenge rather than completing another major squad rebuild.

However, identifying future targets now would allow Koppen and the recruitment department to prepare ahead of January rather than react once the window opens.

Reguła’s situation could therefore be worth monitoring closely.

For now, West Ham’s reported involvement should be treated as interest rather than an advanced transfer pursuit.

The presence of Dortmund, Frankfurt and Benfica also means any eventual deal is likely to be highly competitive.
