Former West Ham man warns Hammers about Wrexham advantage

Former West Ham United youngster Elliot Lee has warned his old club about one advantage Wrexham could possess at London Stadium on Friday night.

Lee came through West Ham’s academy before leaving the club in 2016, when ReadWestHam covered the striker’s Championship move away from the Hammers.

He later became a major figure at Wrexham, helping the Welsh club climb from the National League to the Championship.

Lee left Wrexham by mutual consent earlier this month after 152 appearances and 41 goals, with the club officially confirming his departure.

Now he has issued a warning before two of his former clubs meet.

Elliot Lee sends West Ham Wrexham warning

Speaking to The Sun ahead of Friday’s game, Lee suggested Wrexham possess greater collective experience of Championship football despite West Ham’s recent Premier League pedigree.

That could matter as Nuno Espírito Santo’s side continue adapting to life in the second tier.

West Ham have responded impressively after a difficult start, with Tuesday’s 3-2 victory over Bolton Wanderers completing three consecutive Championship wins.

Wrexham are also improving.

Phil Parkinson’s team will arrive in east London on a three-match unbeaten Championship run, having taken seven points from matches against Millwall, Swansea City and Burnley.

There are still questions over their available squad, with Max Cleworth suffering a hamstring problem before the West Ham trip.

Friday will also be the first league meeting between the clubs in 45 years, with our West Ham vs Wrexham head-to-head guide showing just how rare the fixture has become.

For West Ham, victory would continue an excellent response under Nuno and strengthen their early promotion push.

But Lee knows both clubs well.

His warning provides another reason for the Hammers not to underestimate a Wrexham side beginning to find its feet at Championship level.

Supporters can find the West Ham vs Wrexham TV channel and live-stream details ahead of the 8pm kick-off, while the game begins another important period covered in our West Ham next five fixtures guide.

Lee’s journey also provides another example of the pathway from West Ham’s Academy of Football, which is covered in our permanent West Ham Academy guide.
