Wrexham extend unbeaten run before West Ham trip

Wrexham will arrive at London Stadium on Friday in improved form after extending their unbeaten Championship run to three matches with a 1-1 draw against Burnley.

Phil Parkinson’s side fell behind through Zeki Amdouni after 26 minutes at the STōK Cae Ras on Tuesday night, before Jacques Ekomié headed home Issa Kaboré’s cross ten minutes after half-time.

Neither side could find a winner, leaving Wrexham with another valuable point only three days before facing West Ham United.

The result means Wrexham have now taken seven points from their last three Championship games while conceding only one goal.

That represents a significant warning for a West Ham side coming off an entertaining 3-2 victory at Bolton.

Wrexham defence improving before West Ham

Wrexham’s current run started with their most impressive result of the season.

They went to The Den on 2 September and beat Millwall 3-0, with Kieffer Moore and Ekomié on the scoresheet alongside a Zak Sturge own goal.

Parkinson’s team then travelled to Swansea three days later and held the Championship leaders to a goalless draw.

Burnley became only the first side in three matches to breach that Wrexham defence on Tuesday.

The visitors had opportunities to take more from the game, but Wrexham responded strongly after half-time and Ekomié’s second goal in as many home appearances earned them a point.

It means West Ham should expect a very different challenge from the one their upcoming opponents appeared to pose only a couple of weeks ago.

Supporters can already find the full West Ham vs Wrexham TV channel, kick-off time and live-stream information ahead of Friday’s 8pm start.

Max Cleworth withdrawal worth monitoring

There was also one Wrexham selection development worth watching before Friday.

Max Cleworth started on the right of Parkinson’s back three but was replaced by Zak Vyner after only 30 minutes. Sky Sports’ match information confirms the early substitution but does not currently state why Cleworth was withdrawn.

It would therefore be wrong to describe the defender as injured at this stage.

Any explanation from Parkinson or Wrexham ahead of Friday could become significant team news.

Cleworth had started both the 3-0 victory over Millwall and goalless draw at Swansea, making his availability something for West Ham to monitor over the next 48 hours.

Quick turnaround for West Ham and Wrexham

Neither club has much recovery time.

West Ham return to London Stadium after Tuesday night’s dramatic victory at Bolton, while Wrexham have also played three times in seven days.

Nuno Espírito Santo will therefore have another selection decision to make after rotating his team at Bolton.

Friday’s fixture is confirmed for 8pm BST at London Stadium, with West Ham’s official ticket information also listing the Championship contest for 11 September.

The full run of upcoming matches is available through ReadWestHam’s West Ham fixtures and results page.

West Ham will enter the game with the momentum of three consecutive victories.

Wrexham arrive with momentum of their own.

Seven points and only one goal conceded across their last three Championship matches suggest Friday’s visitors are becoming considerably harder to beat.
