West Ham United are set to sanction a Deadline Day loan move for Kaelan Casey, with the academy defender heading to Stevenage for the season.
ExWHUEmployee reports that West Ham have agreed to let Casey leave temporarily in order to secure more regular senior football.
The 21-year-old has been with the Hammers since the age of five and has already made his first-team debut, but opportunities have remained limited. West Ham’s official profile confirms Casey has been part of the senior setup since making his debut in 2022.
Casey set for Stevenage loan
A loan exit has been on the cards for Casey for much of the summer.
ExWHUEmployee previously indicated that several academy defenders could be allowed out temporarily as West Ham looked to balance development opportunities with first-team depth.
Casey has already gained EFL experience during previous loan spells and Stevenage now appear set to provide the next stage of his development.
The move also comes as West Ham reshape their defensive options on Deadline Day, with Wout Faes and Morato both moving closer to joining Nuno Espírito Santo’s squad.
For Casey, the priority is now simple.
Regular senior minutes at Stevenage should give the highly-rated academy graduate the chance to prove he is ready to return and challenge for a bigger West Ham role.
