West Ham’s Ezra Mayers awaits England chance against France

West Ham defender Ezra Mayers will hope for his first minutes of England U20s’ international programme when they face France on Tuesday morning.

Mayers remained an unused substitute during Friday’s 3-1 victory over Italy, while fellow Hammers defender Airidas Golambeckis started.

England’s official fixture schedule confirms a 10:30am BST kick-off at Estadi Olímpic Camilo Cano in Spain.

Ezra Mayers awaits England U20 opportunity

Head coach Darren Moore began the three-match programme with a victory, giving him a decision over whether to retain his starting side or introduce other members of the squad.

Golambeckis partnered Ayden Heaven in defence against Italy. Mayers was among the alternatives on the bench.

West Ham’s involvement in the Italy victory also included a start for Divine Mukasa, but the midfielder’s international programme has since changed.

Mukasa moves up to England U21s

England confirmed Mukasa’s promotion to Lee Carsley’s U21 squad on Monday, following injury withdrawals.

He will therefore join preparations for European Championship qualifiers against Slovakia and the Republic of Ireland.

West Ham goalkeeper Finlay Herrick had already withdrawn from the U20 squad through injury, leaving Mayers and Golambeckis as the club’s remaining representatives in Moore’s group.

After France, England U20s conclude their programme against Germany on Saturday 3 October.

For Mayers, Tuesday offers another opportunity to earn a place in Moore’s plans, although his involvement remains dependent on selection.
