West Ham United’s remaining transfer business is expected to focus on loan deals after the £10million arrival of Edvin Austbø, potentially signalling the end of the club’s permanent spending this summer.
The Hammers still want reinforcements before Tuesday night’s deadline, with Nuno Espírito Santo particularly short of defensive options.
West Ham Deadline Day plan takes shape
West Ham have already completed the signing of Austbø from Viking, taking another permanent attacking target off Nuno’s wishlist.
Attention is now turning towards defence.
The Hammers have opened talks with Nottingham Forest over Morato, with both a straight loan and a loan containing an obligation to buy discussed.
Steinberg has also reported that West Ham submitted an offer to take Hull City left-back Ryan Giles on loan with an option to buy, although Hull currently want to keep him.
The latest information does not completely rule out another permanent signing.
However, it suggests West Ham’s approach has shifted significantly heading into the final hours.
After spending around £10m on Austbø, Nuno may now have to rely on the loan market to complete his squad before the window slams shut.
