Manor Solomon may look like a relatively modest £7million addition to West Ham’s expensive summer rebuild, but his Championship record tells a very different story.
The Hammers have agreed to pay Tottenham £5million plus £2million in add-ons for the winger, with a medical booked before he signs a three-year contract. For Nuno Espírito Santo, Solomon could be exactly the type of player needed for an immediate promotion push.
Manor Solomon has already dominated the Championship
West Ham do not have to guess whether Solomon can perform at this level.
The 27-year-old spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Leeds United and played an important role as they won promotion back to the Premier League.
Leeds confirmed Solomon finished the campaign with 10 goals and 12 assists, including the dramatic winner against Plymouth Argyle which secured the Championship title on the final day.
His underlying numbers were just as impressive.
Opta’s Championship analysis recorded Solomon with 10.3 open-play expected assists, while he created 28 chances after carrying the ball.
Those numbers explain why a £7million fee could prove excellent business.
Solomon is comfortable receiving possession wide before attacking his defender, something West Ham will regularly need against teams prepared to sit deep and concede possession.
West Ham have found their Summerville replacement
Crysencio Summerville’s departure left an obvious gap on the left side of Nuno’s attack.
ReadWestHam reported when Summerville completed his move to Al Hilal after the winger became one of several valuable players to leave following relegation.
Solomon offers some of the same qualities.
He can carry the ball into dangerous areas, create chances and contribute goals himself. More importantly, he has already shown he can produce those numbers across a demanding 46-game Championship season.
ReadWestHam covered the developing Solomon deal earlier on Saturday before Fabrizio Romano confirmed an agreement had been reached with Tottenham.
£7m could look like a West Ham bargain
There are reasons Solomon is available for such a modest fee.
Injuries have interrupted his career and he never established himself at Tottenham after arriving in 2023.
West Ham are therefore taking a calculated risk rather than signing a guaranteed success.
But the Championship changes the equation.
Nuno needs players capable of breaking down stubborn defences, surviving the relentless schedule and delivering when the promotion race becomes tense.
Solomon has already done all three.
For £7million, West Ham are about to sign a winger who knows exactly what it takes to win this division.
The rest of the Championship should probably take notice.
