Jessie Stapleton’s move to Leicester City transfer has been officially confirmed, with the Republic of Ireland defender leaving West Ham United permanently after three seasons in east London.
West Ham announced the move on Wednesday but did not disclose a transfer fee or the length of Stapleton’s Leicester contract. The 21-year-old will continue her career in Barclays Women’s Super League 2.
Jessie Stapleton Leicester City transfer confirmed
Stapleton joined West Ham from Shelbourne during the summer of 2023 after emerging as one of Ireland’s leading young defenders.
However, she made only two senior appearances for the Hammers and spent much of her time away from the club on loan. Stapleton represented Sunderland during the 2024/25 campaign before joining Nottingham Forest for the following season.
The permanent move should provide a clearer route towards regular first-team football. Leicester are rebuilding after dropping into WSL 2 and have now added a defender with senior international and Championship experience.
Stapleton’s departure also allows West Ham to streamline Rita Guarino’s squad before the new Women’s Super League season begins.
The Hammers have already made several changes this summer. ReadWestHam reported that Oona Siren signed a new contract until 2028 after being named the club’s Hammer of the Year last season.
Stapleton will now seek the consistent minutes that were unavailable during her spell in east London. Her age and previous loan experience leave room for further development at Leicester.
West Ham thanked the Republic of Ireland international for her contribution and wished her well following completion of the Jessie Stapleton Leicester City transfer.
