West Ham’s London rivals weighing up offer for widely wanted man
  • West Ham United needs £150 million in player sales after being relegated to the Championship
  • Tottenham Hotspur are weighing up an offer for Crysencio Summerville
  • Summerville was called up to the Netherlands World Cup squad

After pipping West Ham United to Premier League survival, Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly begun putting their summer plans in motion, which include poaching one of the Hammers’ sought-after talents.

West Ham finished 18th in the top-flight season just gone, two points behind Spurs on 41, and thus are now suffering from the consequences of relegation. The East London club are said to need £150 million in player sales following the drop into the Championship, which comes after West Ham posted a £104.2 million loss in their latest accounts in February.

The club hierarchy have decided to back Nuno Espírito Santo’s stay as head coach. However, the precarious financial situation means the Portuguese will likely operate with a different squad when domestic games resume in August.

Tottenham Hotspur are weighing up an offer for Crysencio Summerville

GiveMeSport are backing reports that Spurs are attempting to revive their interest in Crysencio Summerville after their bid for the mercurial winger was knocked back last winter.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side managed to navigate numerous injuries as they avoided an unprecedented relegation, but if they are to climb up the table – and recover the form that had them amongst the Premier League’s finest a decade ago – they will need to recruit.

Serie A heavyweights Roma are also interested in the 24-year-old in the upcoming transfer window, with Gian Piero Gasperini making him his top priority in order to boost their attack.

The Italian clubs also qualified for the Champions League, which might give them an advantage in discussions, but Spurs will aim to persuade him to stay in London.

West Ham bought Summerville from Leeds United for around £25 million in August 2024, and it would be expected that any sale involving the player would have to exceed that purchase price, given he has a contract at the London Stadium until 2029.

Why Summerville is a wanted man

One may look at Summerville’s number and question why his seven league contributions is wanted by two major clubs. However, a closer examination of the sheet would show a player who has made steady progress since arriving at West Ham.

Summerville’s first season in claret and blue only yielded one goal and two assists in the 2024-25 campaign. That involvement has now tripled. It’s also a production that goes along with a burgeoning skill set, combining pace and trickery into an alluring package. Throughout West Ham’s final run-in, Summerville’s surging run on the left wing was a theme for most of their attacks.

The former Feyenoord youth player was called up to the Netherlands’ 2026 World Cup squad on Wednesday, which only adds to his value as he looks set to become a full-time international, marking the right time for Summerville and West Ham to cash in at the peak of their stock.
