- Crysencio Summerville has been called up to the Netherlands World Cup squad
- The West Ham winger contributed to seven league goals this season
- Summerville is expected to be one of the players to depart the Hammers following relegation
West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville has been called up to the Netherlands 2026 World Cup squad ahead of the summer tournament in North America.
The mercurial Dutch winger has been one of the few bright sparks in a dire Hammers‘ campaign, which saw the East London club relegated from the Premier League last Sunday. Summerville’s form saw a commendable upsurge after the turn of the year, contributing to nine goals in all competitions in 2026.
The uncapped 24-year-old missed out on manager Ronald Koeman’s March international selections due to injury; however, his performances, despite West Ham’s unsuccessful bid to stave off the drop to the Championship, have clearly done enough to earn him selection in the 26-man squad announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Summerville has played for various Dutch youth international teams during his formative football career, including the Netherlands Under-21 side that competed in the 2023 Under-21 European Football Championship.
Summerville joins a collection of West Ham players called up for their respective nations ahead of the global tournament in the USA, Canada and Mexico, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka (DR Congo) and Tomáš Souček (Czech Republic) also earning selections in recent weeks.
The Netherlands squad includes a host of world-class Premier League talents, with Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk and Arsenal’s Jurriën Timber headlining Koeman’s selection.
Crysencio Summerville’s World Cup selection makes West Ham exit likely
Summerville joined West Ham in 2024 from Leeds United, with the likely goal of the £25 million move culminating with a chance to represent his country. The transfer to East London has given the former Feyenoord man a more noble platform to perform and impress, which he has done in his second season.
Summerville’s individual performances have attracted interest from a wide range of European clubs, with Serie A club Roma, who will play Champions League football next season, leading the chase. A place in the World Cup for a player of Summerville’s alluring, flair-driven profile will only catch the eye over the summer, making a transfer away from the London Stadium inevitable.
It has been reported that West Ham will have to make over £100 million in player sales to offset their dwindling financial position, and Summerville is an asset with a rising value that the club will have to reluctantly part with.
