West Ham United expect Konstantinos Mavropanos to remain at the club this summer despite interest in the defender.
Claret & Hugh reports that the Hammers have communicated their position directly to the Greece international. Nuno Espírito Santo sees Mavropanos as an important part of his plans for the Championship season.
The 28-year-old still has two years remaining on his contract, which gives West Ham control over his future. The club would therefore need a substantial offer before reconsidering its stance.
Mavropanos can provide defensive stability
Mavropanos established himself as one of West Ham’s most consistent performers last season. Supporters also voted him Hammer of the Year after a difficult campaign ended in relegation.
His physical strength, recovery pace and aerial ability should suit the Championship. He also gives Nuno an experienced defender who already understands the club and the demands of English football.
ReadWestHam recently reported that Arsenal had shown interest in bringing Mavropanos back to north London. A move would offer him Premier League and Champions League football, but West Ham have no desire to lose another senior player.
The Hammers already need to strengthen their defensive options following Axel Disasi’s return to Chelsea. Selling Mavropanos would create another major gap and force the recruitment team to spend part of its budget on an established replacement.
Nuno will want a settled defensive core as West Ham target an immediate Premier League return. Mavropanos can provide leadership and continuity while new arrivals adapt to the squad.
A major offer could still change the situation later in the window. For now, West Ham have made their position clear and expect Mavropanos to lead their defence next season.
