- West Ham drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace on Monday night
- The point takes the Hammers to two points above the bottom three
- Tomas Soucek wants this level of performance every week
West Ham United took a point from Selhurst Park on Monday night, drawing 0-0 with Crystal Palace. The Hammers had the better chances but walk away with their first back-to-back clean sheets of the season.
The point moves West Ham to two points above the Premier League relegation zone, in another step in the right direction for Nuno Espirito Santo’s team.
Tomas Soucek, talking to the club’s official website, has urged to team to keep up the same level of fight and determination going forward.
“Obviously, we came here and we wanted all three points because we know where we are,” said Soucek. “We are in a big fight, but we have to take the good point away and now full concentration is on the home game against Everton.
“Today I know that we had some chances. I saw the good spirit, the good character again and that’s where we have to stay.
“We can see that they (Crystal Palace) are a good side. They are good in Europe as well and they showed it again, but I think we were an even better side today. We could have got more from the game with the chances we had, but as I said, we take the point away and then go for another one because we need as many points as possible.
“We wanted all three points and I think we showed that with the way we went for it with a couple of chances, but it’s not every day that these chances become the goal.
“Today I think we had a good couple of moments, especially in the first half, and then we fought with maximum effort in the second. As I said, we’re still disappointed, but we have to be happy with the point.”
Clean sheets are so important to West Ham
Last night’s clean sheet is the first time West Ham have secured back-to-back clean sheets this season. Soucek has stated that it is so important, with the team building from the back as they look to survive.
“The clean sheet is so important because we work on the defence very well in training sessions, so we are so happy with the clean sheet. We just need to keep getting them and we also believe we can score.
“Especially when we’re fighting relegation, these clean sheets are so important and when we have them, we believe that they can give us so many points.”
Attention now turns to Everton, who the Hammers host on Saturday.
“The fans are incredible,” he said. “We can’t wait to hear them on Saturday again because we know that they are all behind us. They appreciate us, we appreciate them, and that’s how it should be. We have one goal and it’s to save this Club.”
