“Deserve the point”: West Ham defender taking the positives from Crystal Palace draw

  • West Ham drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace on Monday night
  • The team secured their first back-to-back clean sheets of the season
  • Kyle Walker-Peters started his third consecutive game

West Ham United drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace on Monday night. Some may feel it is two points dropped whilst others will say it is a good point but either way it moves the Hammers to two points above the Premier League drop zone.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s team played well throughout but could not find the all-important finish in the final third. At the other end, the new-look West Ham defence stood tall, to get their first back-to-back clean sheet’s this season.

Kyle Walker-Peters, speaking to the club’s official website, stated it was a good point that keeps the team’s confidence going.

“I think we definitely deserve the point,” Walker-Peters reflected. “I think we had some good chances to score. But this is a tough place to come to, so coming away with a point is a positive.

“We knew they were going to put in a lot of crosses, so we had to stay focused and keep looking for our men to mark, but it’s something we’ve worked on for months now in training and it’s starting to show in the games with the clean sheets we’re picking up.

“I think the clean sheets are showing that we’re confident going into games, that we’re not going to concede. There’s a lot of confidence and long may it continue because we need to keep clean sheets to keep taking points.

“For sure [we could have claimed all three points]. We’ll look back at those chances. But Dean Henderson made an incredible save from Dinos’ header. That was probably, I’d say, our best chance. But yes, I think we’ll take the confidence from this game for sure.”

Kyle Walker-Peters relishing West Ham return

Walker-Peters has been restored to the starting XI after a solid showing in the FA Cup against Leeds United. Since then, the 29-year-old has started the last two Premier League games and has repaid Nuno’s faith with some strong performances.

“I’m delighted to be playing,” he continued. “When I came here, I was excited for the competition, excited to be competing with top players and that brings out the best in everyone. I think we’re doing well. We have to keep working hard and look forward to the next games.

“[Everton] It’s another big one. But we’ll be ready, for sure.”
