West Ham United drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace on Monday night. The point takes the Hammers to two points above the relegation zone but some will feel they could have had more. Either way, West Ham secured a second clean sheet and took another step in their survival fight.

Hammers boss Nuno Espirito Santo told the club’s official website that he see’s both sides of the story but acknowledges how tough it can be at Selhurst Park.

“It was a very tough match. We knew before that coming to Selhurst Park is always tough. Overall, I think the team was organised, compact and solid, and we contained and sustained the attack of Palace.

“Our combinations didn’t click as we wished, but we realise that the team played and performed well, we were committed and organised, and the team spirit was there. So, let’s keep going.”

Nuno believes Premier League survival will come down to the last day

Nuno knows that in a fight like this, it is all about confidence. Not losing should continue to give West Ham just that but the Hammers boss does believe that it their season will matter all the way to the final day.

“We got ourselves a clean sheet, which is always positive for our morale and confidence. Everything starts from there, knowing that we have talent up front that can unbalance the games. So, organising defensively is very important for us.

“The clean sheets help. It proves that the players are committed and are doing everything they can to keep clean sheets for the team.

“We know it’s going to be a fight until the end, and being this solid and compact in defence for sure is going to help us.

“We had good chances in attack, as well. There was a fantastic save from Dean [Henderson]. We had a couple of situations also with Cry [Summerville] and Jarrod [Bowen]. But in the second half we had to defend also.

“It was a very tough match, and when the games come up and down with the counter attack of Palace, it becomes dangerous, so we had to work hard.”

matchday.
