New twist emerges for Callum Wilson at West Ham

West Ham United are vying to stay in the Premier League this season. Nuno Espirito Santo oversaw the club spending significantly in January as he looked to turn the Hammers around. The additions of the likes of Valentin Castellanos and Pablo Felipe have helped the team to be just a point from safety.

With additions comes players who fall down the pecking order. Callum Wilson, who joined the club last summer, was on of the players tipped to leave in the winter window.

However, the 34-year-old would remain at West Ham. In the same month Wilson scored the winner against Tottenham Hotspur, the biggest and most memorable moment of his Hammers career.

Reports in the following month even suggested that the striker was set to be offered a new one-year-deal with the Iron’s league position in peril.

Now, according to The Athletic, Wilson is unlikely to stay at the club when the season comes to a close. This is regardless of whether or not Nuno’s team remain in the Premier League.

Callum Wilson’s topsy-turvy time at West Ham

When Callum Wilson joined West Ham the idea was that he’d be able to get the club ten or more Premier League goals. A feat the 34-year-old has done three times in his career. Simply put, Wilson is a goal scorer at this level and was expected to continue.

Unfortunately for the Hammers, the last couple of years have not been kind on the striker. Last season with Newcastle United, Wilson spent most of the season and only managed one goal all campaign.

Regardless, many thought the move could bring him back to his best.

This season has not been easy for anyone within the Irons squad and that is the same for Wilson. Whilst injuries haven’t been the issue, service and form have. Nuno had to make changes and unfortunately it was in his position.

With a break between the two looking likely there will be no doubt Wilson will look to continue. A high-earner, yes, but a top goal scorer on his day, he just has not been able to do so in a Hammers shirt.
