West Ham United are still well within a shot of staying up in the Premier League this season. A 5-2 loss to Liverpool at the weekend was a stumbling block in the road of what’s been a strong string of performances for the Hammers.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s team head to Fulham tonight, knowing they need to begin converting performances into results as soon as possible with ten league games left this season. West Ham sit two points below the safety mark and could be outside of the bottom three with a win and other results come full-time.
Mads Hermansen has been reintroduced into the Hammers team over the last month, forming a strong defensive unit with Chelsea-loanee Axel Disasi and Konstantinos Mavropanos. The Danish shot stopper told the club’s official website that the team are so close to producing a full performance that will deliver three points:
“I think we’ve been we’ve been building confidence through good performances as a team,” the goalkeeper observed. “I think we’ve looked solid defensively [Liverpool aside], and we’ve been carrying a lot of good threats offensively.
“We’ve just been looking good in and controlling the games a lot better than we were earlier in the season. And, of course, all the time when you build good performances, the results will also come.
“So, we’ve got ten games to go and I think if we can put in as many good performances for the whole 90 minutes as possible, we can build the better chance of staying up.
“Early in the season we had too many games when we’ve had periods when we played well, but then for a few minutes after we dropped a lot in our level of performance.
“So, I think we just need to build that stability over a complete game. I’m quite sure if we take that into all of the rest of the games of the season, we’ll get a lot of good results.”
Hermansen’s shot stopping impact
The 25-year-old goalkeeper struggled to bed into life at West Ham at first. Hermansen started the season as the club’s starter under Graham Potter. As the Hammers failed to get results, the shot stopper was dropped and Potter was replaced with Nuno.
Mads Hermansen’s 2025/26 West Ham United Statistics
| Appearances | Clean Sheets | Save % |
| 9 | 3 | 57.5% |
Since the turn of the year, Hermansen has returned to the fold, helping the Irons to produce some impressive defensive performances and get them into a position where safety is more than a possibility.
Alongside Disasi and Mavropanos, the unit has produced two clean sheets in West Ham’s strongest run of form this season. All three will be key to the Hammers attempts to preserve their Premier League status in the coming weeks.
West ham’s situation
West Ham are currently two points deep in the bottom three, chasing Nottingham Forest who sit just above them. After losing to Liverpool, the Hammers head across London to Fulham, in a game they cannot afford to lose.
Forest are also playing, heading to title chasing Manchester City. Nott’s failed to gain ground on the Irons at the weekend, losing to Brighton & Hove Albion and West Ham need that trend to continue.
Should results go their way, West Ham have a chance to be outside the relegation zone come full-time tonight.
